We had some kind friends donate a bassinet to us...it was their 3rd bassinet donation and I offered to take one off of their hands!  Apparently Utah is the place to be for baby handouts!  So Dan's wonderful parents picked it up while they were there for conference and here it is!

There were some pretty big discolorations on it in various places, that I thought were stains.  But after a couple hours soaking in Oxyclean and a good wash, everything came out looking brand new!  The wheels can fold under so it can rock too.
We will also be getting another bassinet from Katina when she's done using it in a few months.  I figure we can use one upstairs and one downstairs or take one to Grandma and Grandpas for visits.  It's fun getting baby stuff and having it on display, gives our home a new feel, kinda like when you decorate for Christmas, but in a little more significant way!

Also, here's my 16-17 week belly...I'm growing by the minute!  Okay, I know all you veteran moms are saying, oh my you are so tiny.  But let me tell you, I feel huge with even this much growth even though I know I have a long way to go!  Oh boy!  It's uncomfortable bending over or doing anything abdominally related even now.
I also had an appointment on Monday and met with one of the two doctors that may deliver me.  She was really nice.  She tried to listen to the baby's heartbeat, and I mean TRIED because the baby was doing backflips and somersaults apparently.  She had to try to trap the baby using her hand and the microphone gadget thing.  I started getting a little nervous when she was struggling so much, but she reassured me that this was a great thing to have a healthy and active baby!  6 days until ultrasound day!

So from now on my plan is to take a picture every week and create a flip book of my gradual swelling.  Well, no flip book, but just for memories sake.  Don't worry, I won't post every one, but I thought some of you might want to see my belly in action.  Depression finally hit me this past week when I couldn't zip up one single pair of my pants.  I've begun to expand my wardrobe by reaching into Dan's dresser more often than not.  Luckily over the weekend I did buy a pair of maternity pants, they won't last me through the winter since they are capris, so I still have more shopping to do.  (Though it's really not the same thrill as regular shopping...)  Three weeks from yesterday until the ultrasound! Yay! (We had to bump it to Nov. 7)

10/22/07  Correction:  We weren't able to change the appt after all so the u/s is still on Nov. 6...15 days to go!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

I hope this works!  155bpm....does that mean boy or girl??  Hmmmm  We'll find out soon enough!

As you can see I've been keeping this blog for a little while now.  I haven't revealed Blog, Jr. because I wanted to wait until I was further along and in more of the "safe zone."  Since having my appointment yesterday I feel  TONS more reassured so I figured now is as good a time as any to announce.....WE'RE HAVING A BABY!!!  Okay, that wasn't so climactic since the majority of people who will ever read this already know, but now I can formally announce it!  YAAAAY!!!  Due date is April 9, 2008

The ultrasound will be November 6 so mark you calendars and watch for that update!  That's all for today!

So how I'm feeling is not nearly as important as what happened yesterday...  I had a doctor's appointment and I knew I'd be hearing the hearbeat.  I really wanted Dan there, but since he just started a new job (more details to come in the regular blog), and it's way far out west, it wasn't very feasible for him to be there.  Feeling like it was too momentous of an event to go alone, I asked my mom to drive down from Scottsdale to go with me.

It was such a cool experience!  I didn't cry or anything, I was more in awe and just happy and relieved that there really was a baby alive inside me!  The nurse said it was a strong heartbeat at 155bpm and everything sounded great.  She said to feel reassured because when they hear a heartbeat like that the chances for miscarriage drop by 85%!  Woohoo!  Not that I had reason to think I might miscarry, I'm just paranoid like that and since I'm new to this whole pregnancy thing, I just worry about a lot of things.

Now the REALLY great part happened next and hopefully Dan isn't reading this because I wanted to surprise him with it for his birthday celebration tonight...  So the nurse was telling me that in 5 weeks I'd have an ultrasound done, which I knew and Dan is planning to come.  She told my mom she was welcome to come too, and when I said she lives in Scottsdale and it might be tough for her to come, the nurse said, well do you want to do one now??  My mom and I looked at each other like...ummmm...are you serious??  And since we have a lapse in our insurance coverage this month, anything extra is paid out of pocket, so I had to ask if we would be charged.  The nurse said, oh no, we'll just do it for fun.  Well okay then!!  So ohhhh my goodness, talk about the most amazing experience I've had since I've been pregnant!  (ya know, cuz it's been all gagging and pukey feelings all the time, not really a thrill...)  I know it's going to be such a cooler experience when Dan gets to go with me in 5 weeks, #1 cuz he'll get to witness our baby alive and well on screen, and we'll be together seeing it, and #2 he'll finally be able to hopefully feel a little more connected to this whole experience of pregnancy plus our baby will be bigger and we'll be able to see more.  The pictures she took really don't show much, the live show is much better.

So we just watched the baby wriggling and squirming around, legs moving all over, you could see the outline of the ribs, and he or she is just all crammed in there, it was so incredible.  This was just doubly reassuring to know the baby is alive in there and doing well!  PHEW!  I recorded the heartbeat on tape too as another surprise for Dan.  Now that I think about it, I guess I won't post this page until tomorrow.  Don't want to risk Dan seeing it!  Okay, signing off for now!  Mommy and baby and Daddy are doing well!!  More to come!
